Hello everyone!
I am Michelle Tuten. I am an English WPS major and Psych minor.
I became an English major because I love stories. Before I knew how to spell I was writing Disney Movie extensions/sequels. (I think I still have a fox and the hound extension--complete with stick figure illustrations-- somewhere....) When I learned that MY spelling and grammar were wrong, I got frustrated and stopped writing. I started again in 2nd grade and was writing stories off and on until about high school. In high school, I had an audience and fellow writers. It was then that I started thinking about writing as my career path. Before then, I was thinking of doing an art career path, but I didn't see myself making a living from that.
Also in high school, I found myself enjoying computers and showing people how to do different things with them. I didn't get into the programming part of it (probably because the teacher just handed us a book and said when you've completed the assignment, let me see), but I did enjoy learning to hyperlink and learning how to use our Industrial Design program.
This, the art, and the writing made me think about publishing as a possible career. That is why, when I became an English major, I went with the WPS emphasis. (I became a psych minor in hopes that it might help me build more dynamic characters in my writing)
I picked up some work with the ePortfolio program which I think has really helped me in my career path. As an ePortfolio assistant, I have created websites, answered emails, and helped students that come by the office. I enjoy working there, and have learned a lot. I'm hoping that this class will help me improve my skills not only for this job, but for the career to come.
